WHY MEMBERSHIP MATTERS

Does it really matter if I’m a member or not? Why is a class necessary for church membership? Why do I have to sign anything? People often ask these questions about our membership process. They are skeptical as to why there seems to be so many “hoops” to jump through.

We take membership seriously and with a lot of gravity. Committing yourself to a body of believers is weighty. But it’s also wonderful. When Covenant Members join, they commit to a spiritual family that provides encouragement and support. They are called to a biblical degree of responsibility, service and sacrifice to their brothers and sisters. Our elders and leaders also pledge to assist our Covenant Members with care, counsel, prayer and teaching.

We have established a membership class called "First Steps".  In this class, which runs for 13 weeks, you will learn about our beginnings, our beliefs, and our behaviors.  Each attendee will be given an opportunity to become a covenant member during week 13.  There is no pressure to make this commitment.

You might ask; what is a covenant member?  Come to first steps and you will find out.  Our next class begins January 1, 2017.  However, you can join in at any point.  For more information e-mail us.

Covenant Membership Class

As you think about making a decision to join the church, we offer a class that covers what it means to be a Covenant Member, as well as our mission, basic beliefs and theological distinctives. We want you to know exactly what it means to join and what is required when you do before asking you to make a decision. There are three steps to becoming a Covenant Member:

Baptism

Baptism is intended only for those who have professed faith in Jesus Christ and can give sufficient testimony to the basics of Christian beliefs. We baptize by immersion because it is not only the original significance of the word but also best symbolizes the reality to which baptism points—our death and resurrection in Christ.

If you have not been baptized following salvation, we ask you to take this step before becoming a Covenant Member. To help prepare you, we offer a Baptism Class. This class covers the biblical significance of baptism, frequently asked questions and gives you an opportunity to share your testimony.

Required Attendance

We require prospective members to attend our 13 week membership class. During these 13 weeks each person will be required to read Church Membership by Jonathan Leeman  This book is handed out at Covenant Membership. It explains what membership is and why it’s important to commit to a local body of believers.  At the conclusion of this class each participant will be given an opportunity become member by signing the Membership Covenant.  We will explain the covenant, listen to your testimony and answer any questions you might have.  If you are interested in taking our membership class contact Curtis Holman.

Signing the Covenant

The final step in becoming a member is to sign the Membership Covenant at the conclusion of membership classes.  Once you fulfill the requirements of membership and sign the covenant, you are considered a Covenant Member.
