October 21: God is Light

Read: 1 John 1:5

John summarizes the character of God with a powerful declaration: “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” God is perfectly holy, completely truthful, and morally pure. Nothing evil, deceptive, or corrupt exists within Him.

We are often tempted to reshape God into someone who approves of what we desire. But God does not adjust His holiness to accommodate our darkness. His light exposes us.

Yet the light of God is not given merely to condemn. It reveals our sin so that we may be healed. Jesus, the Light of the world, entered our darkness and bore its judgment at the cross. Because He was condemned for us, God’s light becomes an invitation to repentance rather than a sentence of hopelessness.

ONE TRUTH TO BEHOLD
God is perfectly holy and truthful, without the slightest shadow of sin or deception.

ONE TRUTH TO BECOME
Become a person who welcomes God’s searching light rather than hiding within comfortable darkness.

ONE QUESTION TO MEDITATE ON
What area of my life am I trying to keep beyond the searching light of God’s truth?

CLOSING PRAYER
Holy Father, shine Your light into every hidden corner of my heart. Expose my sin, lead me to repentance, and make me more like Jesus. Amen
