November 6: When Your Heart Condemns You
1 John 3:19-22
Even sincere believers sometimes struggle with an accusing conscience. We remember past sins, question our motives, and wonder whether we truly belong to God.
John offers comfort: “Whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.” Our feelings matter, but they are not the final judge of our standing before God. He knows our sins more completely than we do — and He also knows the full sufficiency of Christ’s sacrifice.
The answer to condemnation is not pretending we are innocent. It is returning to the gospel. Jesus bore the condemnation our sins deserved, and there is now no condemnation for those who are in Him.
As we walk in repentance and love, assurance grows, and we approach God in prayer with increasing confidence. Our confidence is never that we have performed perfectly, but that Christ has fully accomplished our salvation.
ONE TRUTH TO BEHOLD
God is greater than our accusing hearts, and Christ’s finished work is stronger than our guilt.
ONE TRUTH TO BECOME
Become a person who responds to genuine sin with repentance and to false condemnation with gospel confidence.
ONE QUESTION TO MEDITATE ON
Am I confessing my sin to God, or continuing to punish myself for something Christ has already paid for?
CLOSING PRAYER
Father, when my heart condemns me, lead me back to Jesus. Give me honest repentance, settled assurance, and confidence to draw near to You. Amen.
