PSALM 94
When Injustice Seems to Win
Devotional Reflection
Psalm 94 gives voice to the anguish of seeing the proud oppress the vulnerable while acting as though God does not notice. The psalmist does not deny evil or minimize suffering. He brings both his anger and his longing for justice directly to the Lord.
We often respond to injustice in one of two ways: despair, believing nothing will change, or vengeance, believing everything depends on us. This psalm offers another way. God sees, God knows, and God will judge rightly. His delay is not indifference, and His discipline is not abandonment.
Jesus is the ultimate proof that God’s justice and mercy are not opposed. At the cross, evil was exposed and judgment was satisfied, yet sinners were offered grace. Because Christ bore judgment for us, we can resist evil without becoming consumed by hatred. We can seek justice while trusting the final verdict to God.
One Truth to Behold
The Lord sees every injustice and will never abandon His people.
One Truth to Become
Become a person who confronts evil courageously, protects the vulnerable, and refuses to let bitterness rule the heart.
One Question to Meditate On
Where do I need to entrust my desire for justice to God while still acting faithfully?
Closing Prayer
Righteous Lord, comfort me when evil seems strong. Guard me from despair, vengeance, and bitterness. Give me courage to pursue justice, mercy toward others, and confidence in Christ, my refuge. Amen.
