October 30: Abiding in the Truth

1 John 1:18-27

John warns his readers about teachers who deny that Jesus is the Christ. False teaching often sounds spiritual while quietly diminishing the identity, authority, or saving work of Jesus.

Believers must therefore abide in the message they heard from the beginning. Spiritual maturity is not moving beyond the gospel but going more deeply into it. The Holy Spirit, whom John calls the anointing, enables God’s people to recognize and remain in apostolic truth.

This does not mean Christians don't need teachers; John himself is teaching them. It means no human teacher possesses authority to contradict the truth God has revealed concerning His Son.

Jesus is not one spiritual option among many. He is the eternal Son who came in the flesh, died for sinners, rose again, and gives eternal life. Abandoning Him is abandoning life itself. To abide in Him is to possess the Father.

ONE TRUTH TO BEHOLD
Eternal life is inseparable from the true Jesus revealed in the apostolic gospel.

ONE TRUTH TO BECOME
Become a discerning person who tests every spiritual claim by Scripture and remains rooted in Christ.

ONE QUESTION TO MEDITATE ON
Am I letting Scripture define Jesus, or reshaping Him into someone easier to follow?

CLOSING PRAYER
Holy Spirit, guard me from deception. Root me deeply in Scripture and keep my mind and heart abiding in the true Christ. Amen.
