October 27: Assurance That Produces Obedience
1 John 2:3-6
John teaches that knowing God changes our lives. Obedience does not earn salvation, but it reveals that God’s grace is truly at work within us. A profession of faith without any desire to follow Christ is empty.
Yet this passage is not calling for sinless perfection. Christians still struggle, fail, confess, and grow. The question is not whether we obey flawlessly, but whether Jesus is increasingly shaping the direction of our lives.
Christ did more than give us an example. He perfectly obeyed the Father in our place and bore the judgment for our disobedience. Because our acceptance rests in His obedience, we can honestly face where our lives fall short. Grace frees us from both careless living and anxious striving.
To “walk in the same way in which he walked” means increasingly reflecting Christ’s humility, truthfulness, purity, compassion, and sacrificial love.
ONE TRUTH TO BEHOLD
Christ’s perfect obedience is the ground of our acceptance and the pattern for our lives.
ONE TRUTH TO BECOME
Become a person whose love for Jesus is increasingly visible through practical obedience.
ONE QUESTION TO MEDITATE ON
What area of my life contradicts my claim that Jesus is Lord?
CLOSING PRAYER
Father, thank You for accepting me through Christ’s obedience. By Your Spirit, make my daily choices reflect the life and character of Jesus. Amen.
