October 19: The Life Made Visible

Read: 1 John 1:1–2

John does not begin with an abstract idea but with a Person whom the apostles heard, saw, and touched. Eternal life entered history in Jesus Christ. Christianity is not built upon private spiritual feelings or inspiring philosophy. It rests upon the historical incarnation, death, and resurrection of the Son of God.

We often look within ourselves for assurance. We ask, “Is my faith strong enough? Do I feel close enough to God?” But the gospel directs our attention outward to Christ. Our hope is not secured by the strength of our feelings but by the reality of what Jesus has accomplished.

The eternal Son became visible so that the invisible God might be known. He entered our fragile world, took our humanity, and gave His life to bring us into fellowship with God. When our emotions change, Christ remains the same.

ONE TRUTH TO BEHOLD
Eternal life is found not in an idea or experience, but in Jesus Christ, the Son of God who entered history for us.

ONE TRUTH TO BECOME
Become a person whose faith rests on Christ’s finished work rather than changing emotions.

ONE QUESTION TO MEDITATE ON
Am I looking to my feelings for assurance, or to the unchanging person and work of Jesus?

CLOSING PRAYER
Father, fix my eyes upon Jesus. When my feelings change, remind me that Christ and His finished work remain secure. Amen.
