October 23: The Blood that Cleanses
Read: 1 John 1:7
John does not say that the blood of Jesus merely cleansed us once in the distant past. He describes Christ’s blood as continually cleansing His people from all sin.
This does not mean Christ must be sacrificed repeatedly. His offering was finished once for all. Rather, the benefits of His completed sacrifice are continually applied to believers. Every sin we discover has already been answered by the sufficient blood of Christ.
We often live as though forgiveness covers only respectable failures. Certain sins leave us believing we are permanently stained. But John says Christ cleanses us from all sin. No guilt is deeper than His grace. No stain is stronger than His blood.
This grace does not make sin insignificant. It makes repentance possible. Because cleansing is available, we no longer need to defend, minimize, or conceal our sin.
ONE TRUTH TO BEHOLD
The finished sacrifice of Jesus is sufficient to cleanse His people completely from every sin.
ONE TRUTH TO BECOME
Become a person who repents quickly, rests deeply in grace, and extends forgiveness generously.
ONE QUESTION TO MEDITATE ON
What past failure am I treating as though it were more powerful than the blood of Christ?
CLOSING PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your sufficient sacrifice. Cleanse my conscience, deepen my repentance, and help me live in the freedom of Your grace. Amen
